Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Botanical Gardens was founded by British Resident Sir Richard Temple who wanted to establish a botanical garden at Nagpur so that he could study its flora. He also wanted to create an arboretum at this site but it never materialized during his lifetime because he died before its completion.
